Privacy & security
This page describes how the app is built. Have it reviewed by a qualified professional before launching publicly; it is not a substitute for a legal privacy policy.
What we store
- Your account: name, email, a securely hashed password (never the password itself), language and plan.
- Your documents: the text we read from them, and — only if you allow it — the original file.
- What we create for you: explanations, questions and answers, quizzes, replies and comparisons.
How we protect it
- Document files, extracted text, explanations, questions and replies are encrypted before they are saved.
- Each account can only see its own documents.
- Sign-in is protected against password guessing, and pages with your documents are never cached.
- Card payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
Who else sees your documents
To create explanations, the text of your document is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, over an encrypted connection. It is used to answer your request. Scanned documents may be sent to Anthropic for text recognition if local OCR isn't available.
We also rely on a few other companies to run the service:
- Our hosting provider stores the website and the encrypted database.
- Our email provider sends account emails, such as password resets. It receives your email address, not your documents.
- Stripe handles payments. It receives your name, email address and payment details, and keeps its own records as required by law.
- If we use an error-monitoring service, it receives technical details about errors, never your documents.
Records we keep
- For about 13 months we keep records of how much AI processing each account used, to enforce plan limits and control costs. These records never include document contents.
- Deleted documents may remain in our encrypted backups for up to 30 days before the backups expire.
Your controls
- Choose to automatically delete documents after 7, 30, 90 or 365 days.
- Choose not to keep original files — we keep only the text.
- Download all of your data at any time.
- Delete any document, all documents, or your whole account permanently.
